Apple Tablet Concept

Even though I am through and through a PC user, would I like to see a Mac Tablet? Definitely! And this is what I would like to see. Gizmodo posed the question last week, I was intrigued, and sent this mock-up in.

First off, I’d like to see a slate. And contrary to what Fujitsu, Motion Computing and Electrovaya have been offering on their models, I would like it to have no hardware buttons and the cleanest look possible. But what about all that exposed and vulnerable screen? Offer a magnetic lid/screen cover/wireless keyboard that snaps on top when not in use.

Styling-wise I went for the new iMac look. I believe it is clean and elegant with its glossy black and silver, which suits this kind of device. I purposefully decided to stray from the iPhone look and its tacky chrome accents.

The lack of hardware controls should be solved exclusively through software, in the graphic interface. This is something no Tablet PC has dared yet, since not even tablet-friendly Vista is as tablet-friendly as Microsoft would like to believe.

As a designer, I find tablets to be an incredible asset. I have always supported the platform, but many times it’s hard not  to wince when so many manufacturers seem to make such poor judgement calls when developing their products. Having Apple enter the market could change all this. And I’m looking forward to their wake up call.
